setelah ada juga yang sanggup PM personally ke FB, bertanyakan tentang IB. and they found out bout it through my blog, so I decided to write it here. sebab takdelah saya ulang-ulang benda yang sama bukan?
kalau ada adik-adik yang nak tahu lebih lanjut tentang IB, boleh view my blog through post yang ada label IB.
this is only my opinion, my personal point of view when talking bout IB.
WHAT IS IB?
okay, I did that as my foundation programme selepas SPC in Kolej MARA Seremban (KMS), under program Skim Pelajar Cemerlang (SPC) selepas SPM, tajaan Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). i know about IB beforehand sebelum masuk KMS lagi, sebab kaunselor pernah bg exposure masa kat MRSM. but not that much. thru blogwalking? not much. zaman tu pun baru nak berjinak-jinak dengan dunia blogging. so tak tahu secara mendalam.
to make it simple, IB a.k.a International Baccalaureate ni program persediaan, yang lebih kurang macam A Level. I can compare it only to A Level sebab, that is the nearest frame of reference masa di KMS dulu. jadi untuk program lain seperti AUSMAT, ADFP, CPU dan sebagainya,xdapatlah nak bagi review. it takes you to finish it within 2 years. and one final exam to deter your points (grade).
basically, in Malaysia, kalau under MARA akan di conduct di KMS dan Kolej MARA Banting (KMB). kalau di KMS, masa my time dulu, semuanya tajaan MARA sahaja. tapi di KMB, ada macam-macam tajaan. PETRONAS, FELDA,TNB dan sebagainya. banyak. and ada a few tempat juga seperti KDU private college yang menawarkan IB di Malaysia.
COMPARISON OF IB WITH A LEVEL?
to compare, IB dikira dalam bentuk points. dia tak pakai CGPA or pointer and all those things. ada 6 subjek wajib yang perlu diambil. dan setiap subjek dikira dalam band 1-band 7. so total up for subjek 6X7= 42 points. another 3 points will come from your Extended Essay (EE) and Theory Of Knowledge (TOK) essay. and that's makes 45 point total for IB. like me, I took Malay A1 SL, English B SL, Biology HL, Chemistry HL, Mathematics HL, and Physics SL. 6 subjects = 3 Higher Level (HL) and 3 Standard Level (SL). selain tu option for taking this 6 subjects depending on your course that you are bounded with. since I'm taking Dentistry (still at that time, I only decided to take Medicine after I finished my IB), so I'm required to take Physics SL at that time (don't know why?). list of subjects offered you can refer to KMS/KMB webiste for more details. *sorry tak rajin sangat
if I were to compare, A Level (AL) only 3 subjects for 2 years. for me its more to exam oriented. like if student Malaysia yang dah biasa dengan Malaysia punya curricular yg more to exam oriented,haaa its like that. (doubt that? still susah jugak lah kan tapinya, sesuailah dengan level yg korang belajar as persediaan but that's how I see it). they have 2 exams, Advance Subsidiary (AS) yang diambil semasa semester kedua and A2 during the final semester. full points for AL programme is 15 points. ada juga yang kira grading A,B,C. kalau ada fail paper masa AS, boleh repeat waktu A2. yang itu confirm.kalau tak silap, final points for AL dia akan puratakan from AS and A2 grade. but one thing for sure in IB, there is no repeat.
IB RELATED TO MEDICINE/DENTISTRY?
belajar IB ni sama level macam matrikulasi sains/asasi sains. so no diff. some topics ada yang korang belajar on surface, and some belajar secara deep. thats for short lah. cuma nak menariknya IB ni ada CAS service iaitu macam volunteering project/curricular activities yang korang kena completekan within two years for 150 hours. TOK essay for 1500 words, and Extended Essay in which more likely a mini thesis written report for 4000 words. sounds crazy but hell yeah, I survived those things! :D
